Week 3 A squash and a squeeze by Julia Donaldson (book based week).

This week we have been learning all about the story a squash and a squeeze.

The little old lady takes all the animals out her house . We decided we would make some houses for the animals

The children have had fun creating houses for the animals , using different materials .

All our activities have been about the book. We have made enclosures for  the characters to squash and squeeze them just like the story. Masks of the animals to support our role play so we can act out the story. We have used sponges in our water tray this will help with our fine motor skills which will support us for our mark making. On one of our tables we had bubblewrap it made funny noises when we squeezed it.

In the garden we have a mud kitchen and have been making some delicious  mud pies, the mud has gone all squelchy and sloppy.

When we got back to our room our potato was cooked and very hot. ( photos to come)

A giant came to visit us we were a  little scared but it was okay as he wrote  a letter to us everyday with instructions for the day.

We planted our own beanstalks in bags, they are growing everyday. We were able to use props from the story to play in the puppet theatre and even played the beanstalk game on our  interactive white board.

24th March - Break up for Easter holidays

14th March - Summer term  Please note this is a different date to the main school.

We have been really busy, this half term we have looked at baby animals. The chicks came to visit us as many of you know. It was so lovely to see them hatch and we even got to have a cuddle with them during circle time. They were very delicate but everybody was very gentle. We also learnt how to care for them and what they will look like when they grow up.

In the garden we have been digging lots of holes (whoops) looking for some wriggly worms we made a wormary using mud and sand and checked with our information books the best way to look after them. We will be putting them back in the ground at the end of the week.

The children have been very interested in "Superheros" this half term and there has been many heros dressed up. We used wool outside and made a laser area for our heros to squeeze though, we weren't allowed to touch the lasers. It was very tricky even our superhero adults had trouble.

Finally we looked at "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" story. We looked at how the caterpillar turned into the butterfly and we made a beautiful display showing all the food that he ate each day. To decorate the butterfly we layed some big sheets of paper on the floor and got out our toes for some footprinting. It was a incredibly messy afternoon but lots of fun. Outside we made some symmetrical butterflies and talked about symmetry. They are very effective and look lovely on our wall.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a very Happy Easter holiday. Thank you everybody for your continued support.

5th February - Parent information session for our new 2Build a Profile assessment at 2.15pm.

Week Beginning 8th February - Lovely Language Week.

Week Beginning 22nd February - Magical Maths Week.

Magical Maths

Our focus this week has been "Magical Maths"

We had a game of pairs out on the carpet but instead of using playing cards we used real socks to make the pairs. On our table we had footballs and goals, the children had to match the numbers to score a goal. Outside we have been practising how far we can jump by measuring and looking at the numbers to match. Somebody put some paper across the two sheds so we could paint on it, some of us painted numbers. We have had some eggs visit us so we estimated how many eggs would crack by the Wednesday. Some of us estimated correctly, 5 eggs had cracked and we now have some beautiful baby chicks.

A big thank you to all the parent/Guardians who joined us today for the chatterbox challenge. we all had lots of fun raising money for a such a worthy cause.

Here are some photos of our day .
