Year 6
Year 6 - Golden Eagle
Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to Year 6 from Mrs. George and Miss. Palmer!
Class Teacher: Mrs. George - sgeorge@bestacademies.org.uk
Trainee Teacher: Miss. Palmer - epalmer@bestacademies.org.uk
Key Information
PE Lessons: P.E sessions are on Monday and Tuesdays. Children should wear their full P.E. kits to school on that day.
Water bottle - Please ensure your child is bringing in a named water bottle every day.
Stationery - In year 5 your child is allowed to bring in a pencil case with their own stationery in, though this is not a specific requirement, it is encouraged to give the children a sense of responsibility as they get older. Pencil cases will be kept in the children's individual lockers and are to be used when the teacher advises. Stationery needed for daily lessons is provided.
Reading Books - Reading books and records should be brought to school daily. We encourage children to read every day to support the development of their reading fluency and exposure to rich vocabulary. Please ensure you are encouraging your child to independently complete their reading record and that you do sign it too. When children have completed reading a book, they then complete a quiz on Accelerated Reader to achieve reading awards, before choosing a new book.
Homework
Homework will usually be set on a Friday. This will be a variation of online, in workbooks or sheets. This will often be something we have been studying or some revision ready for SATs. This will then be due in on Wednesday of the following week. We will then work through this on a Thursday morning to address any misconceptions.
We strongly recommend that homework is not left until the last minute and that any pupil who is facing difficulties with the homework speaks to the teacher as soon as possible rather than missing the deadline.
Reading comprehension, grammar and punctuation – Children will use targeted practice books. We ensure that homework is relevant to children's learning in class with elements of varied content. Children will be advised which pages they are expected to complete.
SPAG.com will be used for online learning and children are provided with login details.
Maths - This will be set on a weekly basis. Maths tasks are set on MyMaths and/or in the Targeted Practice book. The children will be advised which tasks they are expected to complete.
Spellings - Spelling practice tasks will often be set on a Monday and tested one week later. Children will also be sent home with a homework sheet attached with their weekly spellings.
Other information:
Our SATs will take place in May 2026. These exams will be practiced so nothing is a surprise. Every child will receive personalised support to ensure they continue to make progress throughout the year. Throughout the year there will be workshops to ensure you can support them at home.
We will also support them with their step up to secondary school. There will be visits from secondary schools and we will share information given to us from them to best support you and your children.
